Samsung and Google develop a kid-friendly WearOS experience, coming first to the Galaxy Watch 7 LTE

A few years ago, Google announced Kids Space, a curated library of content designed for kids that is available on select Android tablets. Now, it has partnered with Samsung to develop a WearOS experience tailored for kids which has debuted on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 LTE.
Officially called Galaxy Watch for Kids, it is designed to allow parents to keep in touch with their child with a smartwatch such as the Galaxy Watch 7 LTE instead of a smartphone. Just like on Android smartphones and tablets, guardians will be able to use the Family Link app to keep an eye on their child.
With Galaxy Watch for Kids, parents can set who their kids can call and text from their watch, manage apps available for download, and check their location on the app. They can also limit the functions of the watch so the child doesn’t get distracted during classes and find lost devices using the Family Link app.

Galaxy Watch for Kids isn’t just about giving parents control, it is also designed to provide a kid-friendly experience on supported smartwatches.
According to an official press release, Google says they have partnered with popular kids brands on up to 20 teacher-approved apps and watch faces which can be found under the kids section on the Play Store. These brands include Crayola, Marvel, PBS Kids, and Rubik’s Cube. To make it easy for parents to find suitable apps recommended by educators and children media specialists, some apps will have a Teacher Approved
badge.

Google has disclosed that Galaxy Watch for Kids will be available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 LTE (curr. available on Amazon for $289.99) in the coming weeks, starting with the US first, and AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon networks.
Considering the high price of the Galaxy Watch 7 LTE, we hope it will be available on the more affordable Galaxy Watch FE LTE (curr. available for $219.99). However, judging from the high cost of WearOS smartwatches with LTE, more parents will likely settle for smartphones, many of which can be bought for less than $100.
