Apple Watch Series 9 surpassed other models in sales in the US

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) today released a new report detailing the most popular Apple Watch models among US consumers.

The data shows that the Series 9 model was the best-selling in the second quarter of this year, accounting for 43% of total sales. In second place, the Series 8 — launched in 2022 — still maintains a good presence in the market, with a share of 19%.

Next up is the second-generation Apple Watch SE . In addition to occupying third place — with 12% of sales — it appeals to users looking for an option with essential features at a “more affordable” price.

In the premium category, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 , designed for those looking for more advanced features, captured 11% of the market. The original Ultra model, despite no longer being sold directly by Apple, accounted for 9% of sales.

 

CIRP’s analysis indicates that, unlike what happens with iPhones and iPads, whose most expensive models tend to be the best-selling, Apple Watch consumers prefer the “intermediate” models.

This behavior can be explained by the fact that many see the Watch as an iPhone accessory, which makes consumers choose more affordable models, such as the Series 8/9, instead of more expensive ones, such as the Ultra/Ultra 2.

Last week, CIRP revealed that the iPad Pro led sales in the US in the second quarter of 2024. According to the survey, the tablet’s market share rose from 38% to 43%, thanks to the new model with the M4 chip.

Meanwhile, the 10th-generation iPad maintained 35 percent of sales; the iPad Air and iPad mini fell to 12 percent and 10 percent, respectively. CIRP attributed the iPad Pro’s growth to its recent launch and a preference for high-end models.
